剧情：
美国南部的梅岗镇上住着父亲芬奇(格利高里·派克 Gregory Peck 饰)跟他的一对后代。只管老婆曾经亡故,一家人仍过得乐也融融,芬奇对后代亦既严厉又心疼有加。父亲平常还对他们说过,不要杀逝世为人类唱歌的知更鸟,由于她们仁慈而从不损害人。 芬奇除了是一个慈父,仍是外地一名敢于蔓延公理的状师。是日他接到一宗强奸案,原告是黑人罗宾逊（布洛克·皮特Brock Peters 饰）,而受害者是一名白人男子。如许一个案件,在谁人种族轻视相称严峻的年月,罗宾逊的景况堪忧。即便芬奇找到了他不犯法的证据,也缺乏以让人们抛开种族成见。芬奇在法庭上奋力保护现实跟执法的公平,但是却没能阻拦人们积重难返的成见。更蹩脚的是,怀有种族成见的白人曾经把芬奇看成公敌,而罗宾逊也无奈洗清罪名,更可悲的运气在期待着他。

曼城的一位警探SamTyler在办案中被车撞倒在地，从昏迷中醒来后发现自己的4×4车变成了30年前的款式，车内有把他调到曼城警署的文件。原来他回到了1973年，还是在同一栋楼里办公，成了另一个警探GeneHunt的下属，Gene是DCI(DetectiveChiefInstpector)，Sam是DI(DectectiveInspector)，他们俩象是组长副组长的关系，手下还有几个警探，包括制服女警Annie(WPCWomanPoliceConstable)。
