本片依据越南战役中的实在战役改编。1965年11月,越南战役进级至美军直接介入战役阶段。驻越美武士数一直回升。摩尔中校（梅尔吉布森 Mel Gibson 饰）授命把一群新兵练习为真正的兵士,军队中同时涌入不少随军家眷,武士们表演着老公与兵士的双重脚色,温馨的氛围中掺杂着丝丝不安。为了缓解枯燥的军旅生涯,军队举行了大型晚会。出征的时辰到了,摩尔在仪式上肃穆许诺“带回每一名流兵”。 摩尔与他的军队被空降在邻近柬埔寨的河谷地带,这里是北越军的重兵地点,人数弱势的美军堕入了重重包抄,伤亡沉重,最后在火炮!直升机的帮助下战局开端对峙。第二天,战役推动到山丘但仍旧无奈打破包抄,摩尔追求空军赞助,因为两边间隔过近,美军的汽油弹炸伤了部门空中军队。拍照记者乔（Barry Pepper 饰）记载下了战役中一幕幕残暴的画面。第三天,美军正预备直接决议性的近身战役,这时空军增援到位了,越军被全灭。

剧情：
